I stopped by the house last week and took a couple of photos. No one was home. I left a note and got an e-mail yesterday from Dave Bergeron.

Hi Bob.
Got your card in the door the other day. I am always interested in hearing history about the house. I am sure if your grandparents were still around they would not recognize the place now. We have made quite a few changes to the inside and out. Feel free to stop by sometime when we are around.

Hi Bob,
No wonder Nana Wheeler sat in the kitchen and didn't take her coat off at her new home in Waltham......her and Grampy sure brought that Waltham home to life in the end....
Thanks so much for the pics! What a place!

That's the one! I drove Nana and Ruthie up to see the house sometime in the early 70s. I remember sitting in the car and looking at the house from the angle of the first picture. It looked about the same from that angle then. Maybe not as nicely painted. At that time, Nana said she hadn't seen the house in 50 years. Anyway, Nana wanted to go in, but Ruthy felt a little funny, thought they might be intruding. I remember Nana was happy to see it again. I remember picturing Gampa working out back up on the hill behind the house.
Always forget to say who I am. Anyway, think there is only one way to spell Ruthie!

Actually, it was at this house that Nana didn't take her coat off when Nana and grampa first arrived. They used to visit grandpa's aunt in Waltham and then eventually moved to Waltham during the Depression. That's what I remember hearing from Nana
I wonder if there are any pictures around that Nana and Grampa took of the house when they lived there?
This was the first of two farm houses the had in NH. I thought the story had something to do with Nana not taking off her coat at the second house because she loved this first location best. We may never know...
They also had a room mate at this location. The former owner had a provision written in the deed that she could stay at the property for as long as she lived. I heard she was hot!
Mom has the deed.
I know Aunt Dot was born at one of the farm houses. So we know that Nana took her coat off at one point or another:)
Looking for the deed~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom
Nana and Grampa bought the house on September 29, 1914 from Sarah and Lester Gates. More to come...
Well now I am confused....Nana told me on the piazza that when she lived in NH she would ALWAYS take her coat off when she was hot......
Purchase Price $1,500
How old would Aunt Dot be now?
The Deed says that grampa was from Ware Massachusetts. So this was their first house in NH.
I think Dot would be around 94 or 95
Mom
Bob do you have the address?
All I have is
Old Walpole Rd
Keene NH
Head North and look on the right.
There were no house numbers back whe Grampy owned it.
It was a matter of eliminating the houses built after the turn..
FAMILY ROADTRIP
So. Aunt Dot was born in this house.
Who found it?
Did someone go there?
If you go to google maps - to the satellite feature and go up old Walpole rd you can see the house. On the right heading out of Keene center
We should rent a bus and bring the whole clan up there, to show them what Nana and Grampy started.about 24 of us~~~oops I forgot Kenny's, Ruthanne's and Bea and Franny's bunch Do you think they would make us lunch?
maybe 2 busses
way off on my count
