A Father's Prayer

The hour is late
and the house has grown quiet
as Father leans back in his chair.

He peacefully sits there
and seems to be resting,
but really he's deeply in prayer.

He's asking the Lord
for the strength and the wisdom
to know what a father should do

To bring up his family,
to love them and guide them
and be a good friend to them,
too...

He asks for God's help
as he so often does,
and lastly, he whispers, "Amen,"

Then rises
and silently turns off the light,
and the house becomes still once again...

Then all through the night time-
as all through his lifetime-
God answers his prayers from above,

Blessing his family with
caring and closeness,
and, always,
a father's deep
love.
